Position

As a Senior Operations Engineer you hold a key position in which you will act as both an Intelligent Customer and a Subject Matter Expert, contributing to the development and delivery of the Operational Readiness Project (ORP). Your work will directly support the establishment of a fully qualified, competent, licensed, and operationally enabled First Operating Team. Responsibilities may include reviewing and providing input to the engineering design, reviewing and developing reactor operations process and prodecure, leading initiatives in digital Information Management, tool development and integration, Work Management process development, Emergency Response implementation, Nuclear Safety integration, and cross-functional process interface management. You will also represent Reactor Operations in engineering and safety reviews, and contribute to commissioning and transition-to-operations activities.

Profile

We are looking for a fulltime professional (40 hours per week) with a bachelor’s degree and at least 10 years of relevant technical experience in nuclear operations or engineering, or other high-reliability industrial environments. High written and spoken proficiency in the English language is a must; Dutch proficiency is preferred but not required. You possess a proactive, structured approach and are confident working within cross-disciplinary teams. Key competencies include the initiative and the ability to identify and lead efforts that support ORP goals, such as cross-disciplinary challenge resolution team leadership, digital tool integration, supporting training program development using immersive technologies (e.g., VR, 3D modeling, serious gaming), and operational procedure design. You demonstrate strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments. If desired, your role may evolve into a shift management function (e.g., Reactor Shift Supervisor or Senior Reactor Operator) following commissioning and early commercial operations, contingent upon qualification and management approval. Candidates with 7–10 years of experience and an MBO 4 diploma will also be considered, as we anticipate future openings within this growing team.

Team

You will report directly to the Manager Operations and play a pivotal role within the Operations team that is committed to delivering excellence during the development and commissioning of the PALLAS-reactor. You will be part of a motivated, international operations team committed to the safe, efficient, and timely realization of the project. The team operates in a matrix environment and works closely with parallel departments including Engineering, Maintenance, Nuclear Safety, and Radiation Protection. You will collaborate regularly with external stakeholders, such as the HFR Operations team in Petten, to gain operational insights and best practices.
