Position
The Netherlands is entering a decisive phase in shaping its future energy system. To meet climate ambitions and ensure security of supply, the government is preparing for the construction of two new nuclear power plants in Borssele, with additional projects (including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)) actively under discussion. At the same time, the PALLAS project is progressing with the construction of a new research reactor to secure global medical isotope supply.
These developments are taking place within a diverse and evolving Dutch licensing and regulatory environment. As a Nuclear Safety Consultant, you will play a key role in supporting public authorities, industry, and project developers in navigating this complex framework. You will contribute to preparing licensing applications, safety documentation, and regulatory submissions, ensuring compliance with Dutch and international standards. You will also provide advice to clients on nuclear safety and licensing requirements, helping them move projects forward smoothly and responsibly.
You will:
- Analyse and interpret Dutch nuclear licensing requirements and international safety standards.
- Support the preparation of permit applications, safety cases, and related regulatory documentation.
- Act as a liaison between clients and regulatory bodies, ensuring clear communication and effective progress.
- Advise clients on nuclear safety principles, risk management, and best practices.
- Contribute actively to shaping the Dutch nuclear framework of tomorrow by supporting new build projects, life extension programmes, and innovative nuclear applications.
Profile
- A completed master’s degree in nuclear engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, preferably in nuclear safety, licensing, or regulatory environments.
- Knowledge of Dutch nuclear legislation and international standards (IAEA, WENRA, EUR) is a strong advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at different levels.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written); Dutch is an advantage or willingness to learn.
Team
You will be part of the Nuclear Safety & Licensing team, a growing unit dedicated to supporting nuclear development in the Netherlands. With your expertise, you not only strengthen our team but also actively contribute to shaping the future Dutch energy landscape. You will collaborate closely with colleagues from other NRG expertise areas, working on diverse projects that combine safety, licensing, technology, and policy.
