NRG PALLAS: nuclear advancement in Petten, Arnhem and Alkmaar
With over 1,100 colleagues spread across three locations in the Netherlands, we are working to achieve the same objectives: contributing to better healthcare and a sustainable energy future. We do this in Petten, Alkmaar, and Arnhem. Each location has its own area of expertise, but we are always connected. This page explains how we are working on nuclear solutions for today and tomorrow at these locations.

Petten as the beating heart of NRG PALLAS
Petten is the beating heart of our operation and the place where our dreams once began. The first reactor was built here in 1960. Today, nearly 800 colleagues work here on the development and production of medical isotopes and technology for the energy transition. Everything we do comes together here: research, implementation, and preparation for the future.

The reactor of the future is being build trough collaboration
In addition to the current High Flux Reactor, we are building the PALLAS-reactor in Petten. This is a unique project in Europe and a rare opportunity to boost your career. Working on this reactor means contributing to an international project that is unique in the world, saves lives, and paves the way for tomorrow’s energy supply.
Alkmaar: the home base for our designers
Our newest location is in Alkmaar. Since 2013, this has been the home base for the designers of the PALLAS-reactor and the teams working on the construction preparations. Our colleagues in Alkmaar work on technical designs, prepare licence applications, and coordinate international collaborations. Everything that is created here is subsequently brought to life at the construction site in Petten. With colleagues from all over the world, this is a multicultural location where English is the working language.

Arnhem: preliminary research and global inspections
The plans for our PALLAS-reactor first took shape in Arnhem. This is where the preliminary research that formed the basis for the development took place. Today, around eighty colleagues work on technical challenges within the nuclear sector on a daily basis. Colleagues with expertise in radiation protection also carry out inspections at reactors around the world. In doing so, they help other sites to work more safely and bring back knowledge that we use to strengthen our own processes.
The impact of NRG PALLAS extends beyond Petten, Alkmaar and Arnhem
By collaborating in a multidisciplinary way, we are advancing nuclear technology. Do you know where your knowledge is most valuable? See where you can contribute and where your next step begins.
