Materials Scientist – Research Coordination & Data Analysis
Combine materials science, research coordination, and data analysis to help shape the future of nuclear technology.
Are you a materials scientist who enjoys bringing people together, coordinating research activities and turning complex data into meaningful insights? Would you like to work on challenging R&D projects in the nuclear industry while developing your scientific and project coordination skills?
At NRG PALLAS, you will have the opportunity to contribute to innovative materials research, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and work closely with customers and other stakeholders. As a Materials Scientist within our Fuels & Materials Irradiations (FMI) department, you will play a key role in coordinating research activities, analysing experimental results and ensuring that project outcomes are clearly reported and communicated.
Your role
As a Materials Scientist, you will coordinate research activities in close collaboration with engineers, laboratory technicians and project managers. You will act as lead scientist in various commercial and (EU/national funded) research projects. You provide consultancy services related to materials science problems to commercial customers and support the execution of irradiation projects in the HFR. You will help ensure that experiments are carried out effectively, results are analysed accurately and project deliverables meet the required quality standards.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating materials research activities: Align the work for characterisation of materials to ensure that research activities run smoothly and project objectives are achieved
- Monitoring progress: Keep track of research activities, planning, results and deliverables, identifying potential challenges and coordinating follow-up actions with the project team
- Analysing data: Process and interpret experimental data, identify trends and correlations, and translate scientific findings into meaningful conclusions
- Reporting results: Prepare clear, structured technical reports and communicate research findings to internal teams, customers and project partners
- Managing stakeholder interactions: Maintain effective communication with customers, project partners and internal stakeholders, ensuring that expectations, technical requirements and research outcomes are well aligned
- Improving research processes: Identify opportunities to improve experimental methods, data analysis and reporting
- Supporting project development: Contribute to research proposals, commercial acquisition and new project opportunities
What you bring
You have a scientific background in and enjoy working at the intersection of research, coordination, and communication. You are analytical, well organized and comfortable to collaborate with people from different backgrounds.
You bring:
- A master’s degree or PhD in Materials Science, Physics or Chemistry
- 0–3 years of relevant work experience. Experience gained through internships, research projects or your graduation project is valuable
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret experimental data and draw sound scientific conclusions
- Good organizational and coordination skills, with the ability to align activities across different disciplines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in technical reporting and presenting research results
- The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, project managers, customers and other stakeholders
- A proactive and collaborative attitude, combined with a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
- A structured, quality-conscious, and safety-oriented approach to your work
- Curiosity, initiative and the motivation to develop your scientific and coordination skills further
Knowledge and practical experience at least two of the following areas for characterization of nuclear materials is essential:
- Mechanical / fracture testing
- Corrosion testing
- Optical / electron microscopy
- Physical/chemical characterization (e.g. testing of electrical and thermal properties)
Your team
You will join the Fuels & Materials Irradiations (FMI) department at NRG PALLAS, where specialists work on research and development projects for the nuclear industry. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment where collaboration, scientific quality and continuous improvement are central to our work.
